Wawa is a Philly thing. Cheesesteaks are a Philly thing. This should be the perfect combination. Wawa has come a long way in its 60 year history, and seems to be always looking for the newest addition to their menu of quick service made to order foods. But with more options and more convenience, many will say that the quality of Wawa’s offerings have declined as well. Rolls used to be shipped in fresh daily from regional suppliers (like Amoroso), but are now par-baked in stores from frozen. Consistency and quality can vary greatly. The roll was soft and fell apart.
The meat was not much better, it was chopped like ground beef and flavorless, but at least there was no gristle. There were many cheese options, so I chose American, which looked like one Kraft Singles shingled under the meat. Now the onions, that was interesting. There were a lot and they were all piled on top with a very overpowering, almost French onion soup taste.
I’d skip on the cheesesteak during your next Wawa run. Maybe try a new pizza or cheeseburger instead.
