THE TAKE

I first had Season’s Pizza in Newark just off the campus of the University of Delaware. It seemed to me that it was the chain pizza place you go to if you don’t like Grotto. The pizza was never very good, so on a recent trip I decided to try the cheesesteak instead.

The only roll available was a pretty standard, non-seeded, soft hoagie roll. There was no crisp whatsoever, and it was very bready, especially compared to how skimpy the fillings were. The meat did not seem freshly cooked, almost like they had a container full of pre-cooked beef ready to heat up and put on a sandwich. It had an okay flavor with a Steaks-Umms-like flaky chop that was tough to chew. At least there was no gristle.

There were three cheese options, so I chose American. It was not mixed in and was nowhere near enough. The onions were cooked just past raw, and had a pretty bitter, raw onion flavor.

This was a pretty run of the mill “old school” cheesesteak. It was better than the pizza though.
