One roll option-non seeded. One cheese option-American. Small sandwich, cheese mixed in, meat quantity not great. Onions sizes and flavor are good snd well mixed. Chop size and flavor good. No gristle but meat has crispy edges. Some salt definitely
Throughout the Delaware Valley, PJ’s is the classic sports bar chain. This is a wings and beer place, and they are good that. And I think most Philadelphians are taking a side between Chickie’s and Pete’s Crab Fries and PJ’s Famous Fries. So, a place like this must do cheesesteaks well, right? Full disclosure, I have been coming here well over 20 years and this was the first time I tried the cheesesteak.
There’s only one roll option, a traditional, unremarkable long roll, unseeded. It’s not fresh, and it doesn’t stand out at all. It also doesn’t have to work very hard, because the sandwich is not stuffed very full. It’s also a fairly short roll. American cheese is the only option (although their Famous Fries cheese sauce should be an option), and it was fairly well integrated. The meat is well chopped, nicely seasoned, and had some good griddle time, developing nice crispy edges. There’s also no gristle. Onions were plentiful, the perfect middle of the road size and added a nice flavor.
My take - it’s hard to skip the wings or wing-sauce chicken wraps here, but give the cheesesteak a try. And upgrade to Famous Fries.
