THE TAKE

Peppino’s is the new kid on the block when it comes to South Jersey cheesesteaks. (This is the former location of Organico, one of Marlton’s better known pizzerias.) And everything about the menu is impressive, from the traditional pizza, to the dessert pizza, to the cutlets, and most importantly the variety of cheesesteaks.

This sandwich is massive! The roll is offered seeded or not (guess which one I picked), and has a great crunchy crust. There’s a lot of bread on the roll, but an even more massive pile of meat to balance it out. Speaking of the meat, the chop is moderate - somewhat loosely chopped but definitely not slab, with no signs of gristle. The exposed parts of the meat have a nice crispy crunch.

There is a lot of cheese-maybe too much—and it’s very well integrated. I had several options, so I picked American. The cheese flavor adds a lot to the sandwich, although does drown the beef and onion flavoring a little bit. The onions were diced small and mixed throughout.

This cheesesteak is definitely a new favorite! The owner and staff are always welcoming, and everything I have tried has been excellent. So grab a cheesesteak, and try the dessert pizza while you are there!
