That’s right. It’s that Geno’s. Straight from East Passyunk to an industrial park in Cherry Hill, NJ. This is one of several food options in a commissary kitchen style take out and delivery-only establishment called Foodie Hall. I’m not really clear if this is actually operated by Geno’s or just licensed by them.

The roll is sad. It’s a traditional Philly-style hoagie roll but it’s in bad shape. It looks a little stale but it’s actually soft and soggy. The roll is also very thick, giving the appearance of an overstuffed sandwich, but it’s really just bready. It’s going to be a miracle if this bread makes it.

The cheese tastes good, and there’s a lot of it, but it’s not mixed completely throughout, so the meat at the bottom of the roll is cheeseless. There were no published cheese options, but this tastes and looks like American. The onions are plentiful, very finely diced and add a good flavor.

The meat is the problem here. It’s slab style, which is never my favorite, but it is well seasoned and there is a decent amount of meat. There’s no gristle, but like the bread, the meat is almost soggy. The large slabs are pretty difficult to chew.

it’s been a long time since I’ve been to the original Geno’s, so I can’t comment on how similar this is. But, with much better options in Cherry Hill, this is not worth a second try.
