This is a cool place. I used to come here a lot when traveling for work. The 100+ draft beers and huge food menu draw you in, but the food is actually really good. There are two cheesesteaks on the menu; Korean BBQ with kimchi, gochujang, and sesame seeds, and the classic House Cheesesteak. Although I actually liked the Korean BBQ better, this review is about the traditional House steak.
There’s really no customizations. The sandwich comes on what the menu describes as a toasted hoagie roll with a roasted garlic aioli. The roll is okay, very generic, but definitely toasted. It was not very fresh, so the toasting helped out, and the bread stayed together. The standard cheese was American, which was mixed well throughout and added a good flavor.
Fried onions were not listed as an option, but I asked for them anyway. Instead of fried onions, I got onion straws. They didn’t add much flavor, but the quantity was…impressive (?). The garlic aioli is creamy and adds a nice flavor to the roll and to the sandwich as a whole. There’s another flavor too, maybe a BBQ or steak sauce. Whatever it is, it’s salty and works well. But, like the onions, this differs from tradition quite a bit.
The meat is definitely of a high quality, with a large, thick chop. As a result, some pieces were hard to chew. There was no gristle, and like everything else in this sandwich, the meat was well-seasoned with an overall excellent taste. I just wish there was more meat-the stuffing was sparse.
Overall this is not a bad cheesesteak, but the Korean BBQ is the way to go. While you’re there, get the Parmesan truffle fries!
