Mama’s Meatballs & Pizzeria

The official review was actually my second trip here. I had a unique cheesesteak the first time, with long hots, broccoli rabe and a ton of olive oil, so to give this the best assessment, I came back for a traditional cheesesteak.

The roll looked great-it had a nice toasty brown color with lots of sesame seeds. But that’s where it ended. The roll was overly bready, not very fresh and fell apart under the weight and greasiness of the fillings. Although it looked well toasted, it actually tasted burnt. I think this was toasted to make up for yesterday’s roll.

The cheese was done well. There were decent options, it contributed to a good overall flavor, and it was mixed well throughout. I would have preferred more cheese though for the generous quantity of meat. The steak had a medium chop size. There was a lot of fat, and even more gristle, so this was hard to chew. The meat was also not very well seasoned or flavorful.

Based on the name of the restaurant, and the giant food truck in the parking lot, I assume meatballs are their specialty. I should have tried that. The pizza also looked very good.
